Pump housings require simultaneous pressure tightness at suction and discharge ports, precision bore concentricity for shaft and impeller sealing, smooth internal flow passages for hydraulic efficiency, and corrosion resistance to the pumped fluid. Alloy Recommendations

A413 + VADC: Hydraulic gear and vane pumps >100 bar -best pressure tightness, lowest internal porosity.

A360: Water and coolant pumps -corrosion resistance to treated water and coolant additives; 18% higher thermal conductivity than A380 for temperature-sensitive cooling circuit designs.

A380: General oil pumps, air compressors, low-pressure fluid service.

ADC12: Japanese OEM automotive pump programs requiring JIS material certification.


Hydraulic Pump Requirements

Hydraulic pumps at 100-150 bar require die cast housings with:

  • Pressure-tight walls (no through-porosity at rated pressure)
  • Precision bore alignment for gear/vane clearance (<0.1 mm total)
  • Smooth internal flow surfaces to minimize cavitation

Corrosion Resistance for Water Pumps

A360 alloy (0.6% max copper) provides significantly better corrosion resistance than A380 (3.5% copper) in waterborne and coolant applications. For submersible pumps or aggressive fluid service, A360 + anodize or e-coat is standard.
