# Compressor Friction Disc -A319 + T6
Compressor friction discs operate under cyclic mechanical load, requiring tensile strength, fatigue resistance, and dimensional stability that standard HPDC aluminum cannot reliably provide due to gas porosity inhibiting T6 heat treatment. KastMfg produces compressor friction discs in A319 aluminum alloy using low-pressure casting (LPDC) -a process that fills the die from below under gentle gas pressure, eliminating the turbulent injection that creates gas porosity in HPDC.
The low-porosity LPDC structure enables full T6 heat treatment: solution treatment at 495-510°C followed by water quench and artificial aging at 155-170°C. T6-treated A319 achieves tensile strength of 280-300 MPa, yield strength of 195-215 MPa, and hardness of 85-95 HRB -approximately 40% improvement over as-cast properties. Post-heat-treatment CNC machining of friction faces, bore, and keyway ensures geometric accuracy is maintained after the dimensional changes from T6 treatment.
