Bolt bodies for container fittings and security hardware are manufactured at KastMfg in Zamak 5 zinc alloy. The high compressive yield strength of Zamak 5 (600 MPa) and its superior wear resistance versus Zamak 3 make it the appropriate choice for bolt mechanisms subject to repeated operation and load-bearing engagement.
The smooth as-cast surface of Zamak 5 hot-chamber castings (Ra 0.8-1.6 μm) provides an excellent base for protective and decorative finishes. Zinc plating, nickel plating, or chrome plating is applied directly to the as-cast surface with minimal pre-treatment, enabling cost-effective decorative and corrosion-resistant finishes at high production volumes.
