KastMfg Manufacturing Facility -Nanjing, China

KastMfg's manufacturing facility is located at No.6, Rungu Road, Nanjing, China -40 minutes by road from Nanjing Lukou International Airport (NKG). The 28,000 m² integrated facility houses every stage of production: tooling design and fabrication, high-pressure die casting, CNC machining, surface finishing, quality inspection, and shipping.

The HPDC Casting Floor

KastMfg operates 23 die casting machines across two shifts, six days per week.

Cold-chamber machines (aluminum and magnesium):

  • 160T, 250T, 400T, 630T, 800T, 1,000T, 1,600T
  • All machines equipped with shot monitoring (velocity, pressure, temperature logged every shot)
  • Dedicated VADC (vacuum-assisted) machines for T6 and pressure-tight programs
  • Robot ladle systems on machines 400T and above
  • Robot die spray systems on all machines

Hot-chamber machines (zinc):

  • 80T, 160T, 250T, 400T
  • Dedicated machines per alloy (Zamak 3, Zamak 5) -no cross-contamination
  • SF6/CO2gas protection on magnesium cells
  • Automated trim presses adjacent to casting machines on high-volume programs

Melt furnaces:

  • Separate holding furnaces per alloy
  • Rotary degassing (nitrogen/argon) standard on all aluminum melts
  • OES spectrometer chemistry verification on every melt before production

In-House Tooling Shop

KastMfg designs and fabricates all production and prototype tooling in-house. No subcontracting.

The 4,500 m² tool shop houses:

  • 8 CNC vertical machining centers (VMC), up to 1,200 x 800 mm table
  • 3 CNC EDM (spark erosion) machines -complex cavity and core geometry
  • 2 CNC wire EDM machines -precision insert cutting in hardened H13 steel
  • 2 deep-hole drilling machines -cooling channels to 1,500 mm depth
  • 2 CNC lathes -ejector pins, cores, round components
  • 2 surface grinders -parting face flatness to 0.005 mm
  • Dedicated CMM for die component verification before assembly
  • CAD/CAM workstations: UG (NX), SolidWorks, Moldflow simulation

Every new production die undergoes mold flow simulation before steel is cut. Tooling design reviews (3D model) are submitted to customers for approval before machining begins.


CNC Machining Center

KastMfg's 5,200 m² machining center provides complete post-casting machining without part ever leaving the facility.

  • 12 three-axis vertical machining centers (VMC)
  • 4 four-axis machining centers with rotary table
  • 2 five-axis simultaneous machining centers
  • 4 horizontal machining centers (HMC) for gearbox and motor housing bearing bore programs
  • Dedicated boring machines for bearing bores to H6 tolerance
  • CNC lathes for shaft bore turning and thread cutting
  • Robotic deburring station for high-volume programs

Machining capacity: approximately 250,000 machining operations per month across all machines, two-shift operation.


Surface Finishing

KastMfg's surface finishing area provides all standard industrial and decorative finishes in-house:

Mechanical preparation:

  • Shot blasting: multiple blasting rooms for aluminum and zinc (segregated)
  • Vibratory finishing: barrel tumbling for zinc hardware pre-plating preparation

Chemical and electrochemical finishing:

  • Type II anodizing: sulfuric acid anodizing lines for clear and colored aluminum
  • Type III hard anodizing: low-temperature, high-current anodizing for wear-resistant applications
  • Chromate conversion coating (Alodine/Iridite): trivalent chromate only (RoHS compliant)
  • E-coating (cathodic epoxy): full-coverage corrosion primer for complex internal surfaces

Paint and powder:

  • Powder coating booths: electrostatic spray, 180-200°C cure ovens
  • Full RAL and Pantone color range
  • Liquid paint capability for specific programs

Quality Laboratory

KastMfg's dedicated quality laboratory operates independently from production, reporting to the Quality Director.

Dimensional inspection:

  • Hexagon Global Performance CMM (large capacity)
  • Zeiss Contura CMM (precision work)
  • 2.5D vision measurement system
  • Optical profile projector

Material analysis:

  • OES spectrometer (optical emission): dedicated aluminum unit + dedicated zinc/magnesium unit
  • Universal tensile testing machine (100 kN)
  • Rockwell and Brinell hardness testers

Internal soundness:

  • Digital X-ray (radiography) system: ASTM E505 classification
  • Industrial CT scanner: volumetric porosity mapping

Pressure and leak testing:

  • Air decay test stations: up to 200 bar
  • Nitrogen high-pressure test station: up to 350 bar
  • Helium mass spectrometer: <10^-8 mbar·L/s sensitivity

Coating inspection:

  • Eddy current and magnetic induction coating thickness gauges
  • Contact profilometer (surface roughness)
  • Salt spray chamber (ISO 9227): 400-liter capacity

Scheduling a Visit

Customer visits are welcomed at any time with advance notice. KastMfg arranges:

  • Factory floor access with safety equipment provided
  • Technical meeting room for program review and DFM discussion
  • Interpretation services (English, German, Japanese available)
  • NDA execution before visit if required
